Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album
Tripataka's second album is a double compact disc, featuring guest artists Daryl Pratt and Amos Roach.
“Gliese 667C” is a journey through different territories – not just created by the visitations of the musicians as they consider such traditions as Bali, West Africa, India and Morocco – but musical territories that are innovative and beyond geographic border. These are fresh and new, and the musicians’ excitement is palpable as the listener accompanies their pathfinding discoveries. Like its cosmic namesake, this album forges into a place strangely new yet tantilisingly habitable.

EAR072 - Tripataka - Gliese 667C - 24 March, 2023
Tripataka’s latest double album release, Gliese 667C, displays masterful improvisations and rhythmically-charged cyclic forms, creating a sound world of possibilities. Driven by a deep love of ancient rhythmic traditions, the trio explore musical territories beyond geographic borders. The Melbourne-based group features bass trombonist Adrian Sherriff, electric bass guitarist Jonathan Dimond and drummer Adam King with guests vibraphonist Daryl Pratt and didgeridoo artist Amos Roach.

The album demonstrates a significant move towards long-form composition and a deepening of the shared artistic voice of the core trio since the band’s debut album “Yakiya” (Tall Poppies, 2017).
About the Band
Originally a Sanskrit term used in Bharatanatyam, the classical dance form of South India, Tripataka translates to mean “three parts of the flag”. It refers to a mudra (hand gesture) used by dancers, which can represent a crown, an arrow, thunder or flames of fire. Like its namesake, the ensemble is a multifaceted entity with a burning passion for the musical unknown. Tripataka formed in early 2013 through a deep shared interest in music from non-western traditions. Acclaimed for their commitment to creative research through original composition, the group operates as an intense training-ground as much as a performing ensemble with multi-dimensional “twist”. The trio finds endless inspiration in the music of North and South India, Bali, Brazil, Cuba and many other musics from around the world. Trained in these intercultural forms as well as jazz and European classical music, the breadth of the band's combined experience and instrumental resources far surpasses that of a typical contemporary jazz trio. Collaborators have included Guru Karaikudi Mani, Panditi Abhijit Banerjee, B.V. Raghavendra Rao, Guruprasanna, Sandy Evans, Ren Walters and Salvador Persico, amongst others.

I’m just re listening to this beautiful album. It really is gorgeous music!! With the demise of the wang festival it also reminds me of Nadje’s concert with you and Theo a few years back.
I did however notice that Theo is not listed in the personnel on Bandcamp . misja carbo
